Recovering deleted files and how to do so will almost certainly be something that just about every user of a computer — whether PC or Mac — will need to engage in on at least one occasion. For sure, most everybody has accidentally deleted a file that will have turned out to be important and shouldn’t have been deleted. Because of this, it will now be necessary to try to restore it.
Happily as it turns out, recovering a file that’s been accidentally deleted from either a PC or a Mac is, for the most part, relatively uncomplicated to do as long as one has a good quality recovery software program on hand. Keep in mind, though, that the longer you wait to recover the file the harder it will turn out to be.
Many people are surprised when they learn that there is nothing on a computer hard drive that is ever really erased permanently. Normally, what occurs is that the file will have been marked and then put to the side and overwritten at some point by the computer. Even though this has occurred, it is still the case — though it will be harder — that the file can be recovered.
This is the main reason why it’s very important to cease computing activity as soon as possible after you find out that you have deleted something that you will now need to recover. Chances are very good that the file can be restored or recovered if it has not been overwritten or otherwise covered over with other layers of data. Once that overwrite has occurred, it becomes harder and harder.
On the market, there are several good quality recovery programs that one can make use of. Some can be downloaded directly from the Internet and there are a few that are free. For those who use a Mac, it might be a good idea to spend a few dollars on the purchase of a program specific to that kind of computer. Once the software has been downloaded, it’s just a matter of pointing it at the drive that will be examined.
Once appointed, the software begins examining the drive for files that have been erased or deleted. After a time, it will present all of the files that it has found. Go through the list and identify the file that was deleted and is in need of restoring. Right-click the computer mouse and then send it back to wherever it is going to be residing from now on. Do this as soon as possible after deletion in order to increase chances of success.
